How do I add text, images and sound effects with B-Roll?

B-Roll lets you layer a heading, an image, or a sound effect on top of any scene without changing the scene itself. Use it for titles, callouts, product shots, logos, or sound effects.

Open Edit Video

  1. Click the scene you want to add to.
  2. In the left toolbar, click B-Roll.

The B-Roll panel has three sections: Add Text, Add Image and Add Sound Effects.

Add text

  1. Under Add Text, click Add a heading, Add a subheading or Add body text. The text appears on the scene preview.
  2. Click the text on the preview to type your own words.
  3. Use the toolbar above it to style it:
    • Font (e.g. Raleway)
    • Size: use – and +
    • Colour: click A and pick a colour
  4. Drag the text to move it, use the corner handles to resize it and the round handle below it to rotate it.

Add an image

  1. Under Add Image, click Upload Image, drop a file or paste a file or URL (PNG or JPG, up to 1 MB). You can also click Select from Library.
  2. The image appears on the scene. Drag it to move it and use the handles to resize or rotate it.
  3. To swap it, click the image and click Replace.

Set when it appears

Every text and image has a Start and End time in its toolbar. By default, it shows for the first 3 seconds of the scene. Type new times to change when it appears and disappears, for example Start 00:00.0 and End 00:04.0.

Add a sound effect

Under Add Sound Effects, press play to preview a sound, then add the one you want. Click See All to browse the full library.

Check your result

  • Use Shot, Scene and Full Video above the preview to play just the shot, the whole scene or your whole video.
  • Click Back to return to the storyboard. Your B-Roll now shows in the video preview.

💡 Tips:

  • Put headings near the top of the frame so they do not cover faces.
  • Keep text on screen for at least 3 seconds so viewers can read it.
  • For text across the whole video, use Captions instead.
