Kid-safe animated characters for kids songs

Atlabs lets you design the characters in your kids song videos yourself, so you decide exactly how friendly, gentle and age-appropriate they look. You describe each character, or upload your own mascot, and Atlabs keeps that same character in every scene of every video. You can check every scene as a still image before anything is animated.

Try it here: https://app.atlabs.ai/create/kids-music-video

Best for: nursery rhyme channels, preschool learning songs, lullabies, and teachers making songs for a class.

Step 1: Music

  • Open Workflows → Kids Music Video. Click Upload your music track and add an .mp3 or .wav file up to 200MB. You can also paste a Suno or SoundCloud link and click Extract Music, or pick one of the Sample Music Files.
  • No song yet? Make one with Generate Music (app.atlabs.ai/music).

Made your song on Suno?

  1. Open your song in Suno.
  2. Click Unlock Audio.
  3. Click Download Audio and upload the file here.

Once the audio is unlocked, you can also paste the Suno song link directly.

  • In Trim your track, select the part of the song to use. Only the selected part is used in your video.
  • Choose the Video type: Narrative (No Lip Sync, a story told across cinematic scenes) or Performance (Lip Sync, Premium, a lip-synced performance video of the artist).
  • Optional: in the Storyline box, describe the story you want and introduce your cast. Leave it blank and Atlabs writes one from your track. Click Confirm.

  • Atlabs analyses the track and shows what it heard: Language, Mood, Genre and BPM. If anything is wrong, click the pencil icon on that card and correct it before you move on.

Step 2: Style

  • Pick the Aspect Ratio: 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, 16:9 for YouTube, or 1:1.
  • Pick the Video Style: AI Video (Recommended) or AI Storyboard (still images).
  • Pick a Visual Style from the grid. For a soft, kid-friendly look choose 3D Cartoon, Claymation, Cozy Plush or Soft Pastel 2D.

Visual Style grid: pick one style for the whole video

Step 3: Concepts

  • Under Choose your concept, Atlabs shows several concepts generated from your song's tempo, mood and genre, each with a title, a short story and preview frames.
  • Select one, or click the pencil icon on a concept to edit it. To write your own, click Describe your concept. For example, "a bunny and a duck share snacks at a picnic".

Concepts step: pick a concept generated from your song's tempo, mood and genre

Step 4: Cast

  • Atlabs generates the characters, objects and locations for your video. Review, swap or delete them: everything on this screen appears in your final video. Use Add Character or Add Object to add more.

Cast step: review the characters, objects and locations, then click Finalise Video

For each character, open its card and choose how to set it up:

  • AI-generated character (Create New): Atlabs fills in the details, such as name, age, gender, ethnicity, Visual Appearance, clothing and voice. Change anything you want and click Save. The more detail you give in Visual Appearance, the more consistent the character looks in every scene. Also add the character's height in Visual Appearance, for example "about 97 cm tall". Height keeps the character's proportions right next to other characters and objects, whether it is a human, an animal or any other character.
  • Character Library: pick a character you made before, or one of the ready-made actors.
  • Upload your own image: upload a reference image of your character, then choose Match Video Style or Keep Uploaded Look:
    • Match Video Style converts your image into the video's visual style. Use it when your image is a real photo or a different art style from your video.
    • Keep Uploaded Look uses your image as it is. Use it when your image is already in the same visual style as your video.

This choice keeps the uploaded character consistent with the visual style of the video.

Choose Match Video Style or Keep Uploaded Look for an uploaded image

For this video:

  • Design a character: use Create New. Simple, rounded, colourful descriptions work well, such as "small yellow duckling, big round eyes, blue rain boots".
  • Or upload your own mascot: choose Upload, add your drawing and pick Keep Uploaded Look to keep it as drawn.

Locations and objects work the same way: create them with AI, pick them from the library, or upload your own image.

Finalise Video

  • Click Finalise Video. In How would you like to start?, choose:

  • Storyboard: a still image for every scene, with no motion or lip sync yet.
  • Video Preview: the first 25 seconds with full motion (and lip sync where your video has it).
  • Full Video: every scene with complete motion (and lip sync where your video has it).

  • Each option shows its credit cost. Click Generate. Choose Storyboard first to look through every scene. Change anything you are not happy with in the scene's Visual tab, then add motion with Select Scenes to Generate Motion.
  • You can close the window once generation starts. Your video keeps generating and appears in My Stories.

How would you like to start? Storyboard, Video Preview or Full Video, with the credits for each

Tips for child-friendly characters

  • Animals and toy-like characters are the easiest to keep friendly and consistent.
  • Describe the expressions you want: "smiling", "waving", "curious".
  • Keep outfits and colours fixed in the description so the character never changes.
  • Save your characters and reuse them from the Character Library, so every video on your channel uses the same approved cast.
